Challenge Community Vocational Alternatives
Challenge is a non-profit organization that has been assisting people with disabilities in ever-increasing capacities, and numbers, since 1976. In 1988 Challenge adopted a supported employment model of vocational training for adults with disabilities. Our mandate is to assist people with disabilities to become active in their community, by learning real job skills and entering the job market. Our proof of success? During 2007 - 2008 Challenge helped 92 individuals earn over $320,000.00 How
do we do It? Challenge provides supports to individuals with disabilities through three core services, Vocational Assessment, Job Development and Employment Coordination. In conjunction with our government and community partners, Challenge delivers programs such as Commercial Kitchen Skills, Woodshop Production Worker Training, Employ Ability Skills and Landscape/Greenhouse Worker Training that are targeted at responding to community needs and providing training and hands-on experience for our consumers. Integrated into each of these programs is a component that assists individuals with the soft or "Employ Ability" skills that most often impact their success or failure in the workforce. These can include everything from basic life skills to workplace etiquette. By providing training that encompasses all areas of personal development pertaining to the workplace, we strive to facilitate successes for the consumers that come through our door.
